York County rolls out ‘cutting edge’ new emergency alert system

York County debuted a new emergency alert system that uses state-of-the-art technology to provide timely, accurate information to residents during emergencies.
- The platform, called Rave Alert, replaces the County’s previous system, York Alert.
How it works: The updated system allows residents to receive real-time alerts and notifications through multiple channels – including text messages, emails, mobile app notifications and voice calls – during a variety of situations, including severe weather, public safety threats and important community updates.
- According to Fire Chief Steve Kopczynski, York County citizens who are current users of York Alert will automatically have their information transferred to Rave Alert. However, citizens are also invited to re-register with Rave Alert.
Upgraded 911 technology: The new system also includes a Smart911 app that can be used to store resident health data that can be shared with the County’s Emergency Communications department when assistance is needed.
- “With the new Smart911 app, any time you make an emergency call from a phone registered with your profile, the system’s recognition kicks in, and your information is automatically displayed on the screen for the emergency telecommunicator receiving your call,” said Peninsula Regional Emergency Communications Center Director D. Terry Hall. “Every second counts, and having this information quickly may end up saving lives.”
Want to sign up? Residents can enroll in the Rave Alert System by visiting yorkcounty.gov/ravealert following the simple registration process. Anyone who has questions or needs assistance can contact the County at 757-890-4961 or email ravealert@yorkcounty.gov.
