Jamestown Settlement to host ‘Storytelling Family Day,’ offer free admission for library card holders on Aug. 3

WILLIAMSBURG – Jamestown Settlement will host “Storytelling Family Day,” on Saturday, August 3, allowing families to participate in a variety of interactive programs from storytelling sessions to make-and-take crafts.
The event coincides with an “Explore With Your Library Card” event, which grants free admission to all guests who show their Hampton Roads area library card.
Storytelling sessions will feature Indigenous stories by Felicity Meza-Luna at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and African American stories by Sheila Arnold at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
At 1 p.m. at the ships’ pier, visitors will be able to discover the story of the European voyage to Virginia in 1607 through the exploration of five fruits – from apples to berries – that sailors and passengers would have encountered on the 144-day journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
Ongoing craft activities will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A “My Day at Jamestown Settlement” storytelling craft, designed for preschool-age children, will allow participants to create picture magnets to take home and tell stories about their museum adventure.
A journal craft will build on the traditions of Indigenous, European and African cultures. Children will create their own adventure by writing a story on paper and binding the papers into a journal they can share. All craft materials will be provided.
Jamestown Settlement, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and located at 2110 Jamestown Road, is administered by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The museum features immersive indoor gallery exhibits and interactive outdoor living-history experiences.
“Storytelling Family Day” is included with admission to Jamestown Settlement.
