Gov. Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin presented a Spirit of Virginia Award to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, honoring the vital work taking place at the world’s largest living history museum.

  • “The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation embodies the spirit of Virginia, where history isn’t just preserved, but brought to life,” said Youngkin, who presented the award during Independence Day festivities on July 4. “It’s a place where the echoes of our past resonate with the promise of our future, inspiring us to embrace our heritage with pride and purpose.”

Williamsburg was the colonial capital of Virginia during the Revolution and served as the political, cultural and educational center of America’s largest colony from 1699 to 1780. After the capital moved to Richmond in the early 20th century, Colonial Williamsburg was restored to depict its original 18th-century appearance.

  • “We are honored to receive this award for our efforts in sharing Virginia’s rich history with the nation,” said Carly Fiorina, Chair of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Board. “Virginia’s history is America’s story. We take pride in our leadership role, both in Virginia and across the nation.”

The Spirit of Virginia Award recognizes notable accomplishments throughout the Commonwealth, celebrating Virginians for their extraordinary contributions to private sectors, education, culture, the arts and philanthropy.

  • The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation was the third recipient of the award for 2024. Three more awards will be given out in the next few months.
  • All recipients will be honored at a holiday reception at Virginia’s Executive Mansion at the end of the year.
