WATA to offer free rides on Election Day

The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) is offering free rides all day long on Election Day to make it easier for people to get to their local polling center.
According to Iyanla Xo, WATA’s marketing and administrative specialist, all routes will offer free service on Tuesday, Nov. 7. People will automatically be able to take advantage of the offering when they hop on a WATA bus that day.
Xo sent us a list of the polling places identified as being closest to a WATA bus stop. They include:
- Williamsburg Community Building, 401 North Boundary Street – Get off at the Williamsburg Transportation
- Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road – Get off at Stop 1087 – Jamestown Rd at Cary St located on Route 6 and 8
- Waller Mill Elementary School, 314 Waller Mill Rd – Get off at Stop Get off at Stop 1247 – Mooretown Rd at Kingsgate Shops on Route 7
- Griffin-Yeates Center, 1490 Government Rd – Get off at Stop Get off at Stop 1114 – Alexander Lee Pkwy at Peoples Place on Route 3
- James City County Office of Elections Building, 4095 Ironbound Road Get off at Stop 1130 – Courthouse St at WJCC Courthouse on Route 4
- James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road – Get off at Stop 1132– Ashbury Rd at JCC Rec Center on Route 4
- James River Elementary School, 8901 Pocahontas Trail – Get off at Stop 1055 – Pocahontas Trl at James River Elm on Route 1
- King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Road – Get off at Stop 2230– Longhill Rd at King of Glory on Route 4
- Clara Byrd Baker Elementary, 3131 Ironbound Road – Get off at Stop 1235 – Ironbound Rd at Harris Teeter located at Route 6
- Grace Baptist Church, 1013 Penniman Road – Get off at Stop 1117 – Penniman Rd at Vineyard Ln on Route 3
- Jamestown High School, 3751 John Tyler Highway – Get off at Stop 1308 – Eagle Way at Jamestown High located on Route 6
- James City County Fire Admin Building, 5077 John Tyler Highway – Get off at Stop 1232 – Queens Path at Riverside on Route 6
Xo added that the best way for area residents to plan for their trip is to use the Transit app. The trip planning app includes real-time information on all of WATA’s routes.
