The John Clayton Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will host its annual plant sale from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at the Williamsburg Community Building at 401 N. Boundary Street.

The sale will feature native plants that are well-suited for the region, including perennials, trees and shrubs. A plant list at the event will contain information about each plant’s proper growing conditions as well as the beneficial insects, pollinators and wildlife they support.

Informational handouts will be available, and experts will be on hand to help guests select the right plant for the right place.

The John Clayton chapter is a nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the annual sale support nature camps scholarships, school and public gardens, educational lectures and more.

James City County Williamsburg Master Gardener Annual Plant Sale

Annuals, perennials, herbs, veggies, trees and shrubbery will be available for sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 10 at the James City County Williamsburg Master Gardener Association’s (JCCWMGA) Annual Plant Sale.

Held rain or shine, the sale will be located at the Williamsburg Botanical Garden located in Freedom Park. Admission to the garden, the sale and parking are free.

Much of the available plan stock is raised by the Master Gardeners themselves, according to the organization. In addition to plants, gently used garden tools, equipment and specialty items – including artwork and garden sculptures – will be available at the sale.

Visitors will have the opportunity to connect with gardening enthusiasts and receive expert advice from JCCW Master Gardeners.

“Our sale is a longtime favorite among local plant lovers,” said David Kleppinger, president of the JCCWMGA’s Board of Directors. “We’re pleased to have it again in the Williamsburg Botanical Garden in Freedom Park.”

Proceeds from the plant sale support over 25 special projects, including school and community gardens and operating expenses for the JCCWMGA, a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3).

The James City County Williamsburg Extension Master Gardeners are trained and certified through a statewide program with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, which serves Williamsburg, James City County, Charles City, Upper York and New Kent counties.
