A man connected to multiple shootings in the Williamsburg area was arrested on Jan. 9 as part of a joint operation between Williamsburg and James City County police, according to officials.

Howard Fog III, 18, of James City County, was taken into custody and charged in connection with at least three shooting incidents that took place between Dec. 4, 2024, and Jan. 7, 2025.

  • The charges include three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. One of the charges is from the City of Williamsburg, while the other two are from James City County.

JCCPD Chief Mark Jamison said the success of the operation underscores “the power of partnership with our law enforcement partners in the Historic Triangle.”

  • “Together, our departments quickly identified and apprehended a dangerous individual,” Jamison said in a news release.

Williamsburg shooting: Fog III was identified as a suspect in a Jan. 7 shooting in the Highland Park neighborhood of the City of Williamsburg.

James City County shootings: He also appears to be connected to two James City County shootings that took place last month just two days apart: the first on Dec. 4 and the second on Dec. 6. In both cases, shots were fired into the same occupied dwelling in the 2600 block of John Tyler Highway.

  • The JCC Police SWAT team and WPD Detective Bureau apprehended Fog III around 11:45 pm on Jan. 9 after initiating what they say was a “high-risk search warrant” on Grove Gate Lane at the Longhill Grove apartment complex.
  • Fog III was taken to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and is being held there without bond. Detectives have since obtained additional warrants.

“We would like to thank our partners with the James City County Police Department and the community members who collaborated with us to bring a quick resolution to this matter, ensuring our community remains as safe as possible,” said Chief Sean Dunn of the Williamsburg Police Department.
