Virginia early voting underway for August primaries

HISTORIC TRIANGLE – Early voting for the Democratic and Republican August 4 primary races began on Thursday, June 18.

In the Historic Triangle, the Republican ballot features candidates running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Mark Warner, who is seeking a fourth term. Democrats will choose a candidate to challenge Rep. Rob Wittman in the 1st Congressional District.

Virginia is an open primary state. Voters can choose to vote in either party’s primary, but can only vote in one primary.

Early in-person voting ends on Aug. 1. The deadline to register to vote or update your registration is July 24. Anyone who registers after that date would need to vote with a provisional ballot. Voting will not be available on Friday, June 19 (Juneteenth) or Friday, July 3 (Independence Day observed).

Below is a roundup of important early voting information based on locality.

James City County

Voting is held at the Vote Center located in the Office of Elections, 4095 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg.
Voters can cast their ballots Monday to Friday, June 18 through Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, July 25 and Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 19 and July 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

York County

Early, in-person voting is available at two locations: 5322 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, and 6614 Mooretown Road, Suite A, Williamsburg.
Voting is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, July 25 and August 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 19 and 26, from 12 to 5 p.m

City of Williamsburg

In the City of Williamsburg, early voting is only available at the City Municipal Building, located at 401 Lafayette Street, Williamsburg.
Voting hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 19 & July 26, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
