Early voting for Virginia’s March 5 presidential primary begins this Friday, Jan. 19. 

  • On the ballot: The Democratic party’s 2024 primary ballot will include three candidates: President Joe Biden, author and activist Marianne Williamson and Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips. The Republican party’s 2024 primary ballot will feature six candidates, including former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Pastor Ryan Binkley.
  • Important dates: The last day to register to vote for the primary is Monday, Feb. 12. Those registering online must complete the process by 11:59 p.m., while those who register in person will need to do so by 5:00 p.m. Applications for ballots by mail will need to be submitted by no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 23 either by mail, fax or online.

Here’s a rundown of early voting information by locality.

  • Williamsburg: Voters can cast their ballot early at the City Municipal Building, located at 401 Lafayette St. in Williamsburg. Voting hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 24 and March 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • York County: Residents can vote early at one of two locations: 5322 George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown or 6614 Mooretown Rd., Ste. A in Williamsburg. Voting begins at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 19 and will continue Monday through Friday through March 1 from 8:30 – 5:00 p.m. Voting will also be available on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, March 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • James City County: Early voting will be held at the James City County Vote Center, 4095 Ironbound Rd. in Williamsburg. The center is the only designated location for in-person early voting in the county. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, Jan. 19 through March 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the last two Saturdays before the presidential primary, Feb. 24 and March 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Other Peninsula Localities: In Newport News, early voting will be available at City Hall beginning on Jan. 19 and at Fountain Plaza II beginning on Jan. 23. Hampton residents can cast their ballot at the Voter Registration Office at 101 Kings Way beginning Jan. 19. Poquoson will offer early voting at City Hall. A ballot drop box will be also available in the office of Voter Registration during office hours. In Gloucester County, early voting will take place at the Elections Office at Building One, 6467 Main St.
