Free tax assistance now available at Williamsburg Regional Library locations through AARP

WILLIAMSBURG – Tax season is once again upon us, and free tax filing assistance is available at Williamsburg Regional Library locations for those who qualify.
Certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be on hand to offer counseling, preparation and filing help to middle- and low-income taxpayers in Greater Williamsburg, with a focus on those age 50 and older.
Sponsored by the AARP Foundation, Tax-Aide is the largest, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program in the U.S.
Appointments for specific time slots can be booked online or via phone at Williamsburg Library and James City County Library through April 15. Walk-in service is also available at Williamsburg Library as the schedule allows.
New this year, a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) tax option is available in addition to the full-service program traditionally offered.
Individuals with an Adjusted Gross Income under $89,000 are eligible to prepare their own 2025 tax returns using Tax-Aide-provided computers and software. Trained volunteers will be on site to provide support, but participants will need to ensure the accuracy and completeness of their return.
At Williamsburg Library, full-service tax assistance is available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. DIY service is available on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m.
At James City County Library, full-service offerings are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. DIY service is available on Mondays from 3 – 6 p.m.
Participants should have all of their tax documents on hand for the appointment. Appointments typically last about 90 minutes.
Those who need to complete returns for multiple years should make their appointment after Feb. 28 and should plan to make separate appointments for each year.
