Zlatan Ibrahimovic has taken a significant pay cut to re-join Manchester United
Zlatan Ibrahimovic took a significant pay cut to rejoin Manchester United after the club refused to pay him his previous salary of £350,000-a-week.
The Swede signed a new one-year deal with the Red Devils on Thursday and is expected to return before the end of the year from his cruciate injury.
The 35-year-old moved to Old Trafford on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016 and was the club’s highest paid player on £350,0000-a-week.
However, Ibrahimovic was released in July and signed fresh terms this week that will earn him £125,000-a-week.
Such a significant pay cut reflects the gamble that United are taking on the veteran but Ibrahimovic is in no doubt that he will return to his former level.
‘This was part of my plan, to stay with United,’ said Ibrahimovic.
‘As soon as I’m ready I’ll be back wearing the red shirt and will continue what I was doing from last season.
‘I’m motivated, I’m pumped and I look forward to the moment when I walk out at Old Trafford. Seeing the people standing up and when I score my goal that will be the moment I will enjoy most and what I look forward to.’
