Wolves Retire Ikeme’s No.1 Jersey
English side Wolverhampton have retired Eagles goalie Carl Ikeme’s No. 1 shirt after he quit football due to leukemia.
The Nigerian, 32, was last year diagnosed with leukemia but retired after doctors told him to do so.
The decision to retire the shirt was revealed when Wolves announced their squad numbers for the 2018/19 Premier League season.
Also, Rui Patricio will wear No. 11, John Ruddy will be No. 21 and Will Norris is the club’s No. 31.
Ikeme played 274 domestic games in all competitions with over 200 of them for Wolves.
He played for Nigeria ten times and was named as their honorary 24th man for the 2018 World Cup following his illness.
