Tax Evasion Allegations: Ronaldo Backtracks, Hints At Real Madrid Stay
Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo is rethinking his decision to leave Spanish and UCL Champions, Real Madrid this summer according to reports in AS, he is set to remain in Bernabeu for the next season and more.
Ronaldo was said to have made an irreversible decision to quit the Bernabeu and Spain last week after been furious in the wake of tax fraud allegations which was levied against him.
The Real Madrid forward is set to re-consider his decision as the words of the club’s president Florentino Perez has made him cooled his intention of quitting the capital base club.
Lots of clubs were linked with the Real Madrid forward the likes of Manchester United, PSG and Chelsea were believed to have held an interest to sign him.
Ronaldo is currently on international duty with Portugal at the Confederations Cup.
He hasn’t spoken to Perez since the Champions League final but the chairman gave a number of interviews yesterday after being re-elected for another term at the top of the club.
And he insisted Ronaldo was a part of the club’s future and he would try to keep him.
“Cristiano is not a man who goes behind the money,” Perez said. “He is hurt and may be right because he has not tried to hurt anyone. Christian is not a business. It is part of the history of Madrid”
In another interview, he said: “This is all very strange. Cristiano is a good guy, I will have to talk with Cristiano and see what’s happening.”
And Ronaldo may now stick it out in Spain has been at Madrid for eight years.
He has won three Champions League titles and is set to join Lionel Messi as the king of the Balon d’Or this season.
Ronaldo has a €1bn buyout clause and Perez, as well as manager Zinedine Zidane, have both spoken of the hope that he stays.
“Cristiano has a contract and he is a Real Madrid player. I have not talked with Cristiano…. but they tell me has been treated badly in this country. I have found everything out through the newspapers,” Perez said.
“The clause for Cristiano is £1bn. We have not had an offer from Cristiano… the Sheikh at PSG is a friend of mine and he hasn’t called me nor have we talked.
