Spain Draws Colombia To Extend Unbeated Run To 9 Under Lopetegui
Julen Lopetegui declared himself content as Spain extended their unbeaten record under him by scoring a late equaliser in Wednesday’s 2-2 friendly draw against Colombia in Murcia.
Manchester United target Alvaro Morata stepped off the bench to head home an 87th-minute leveller after David Silva’s early opener had been overturned by goals from Edwin Cardona and Radamel Falcao.
It stretches the unbeaten run during Lopetegui’s reign to nine games and sets them up for their World Cup qualifier with Macedonia this weekend.
“It was an intense match and that was the way it had to be,” the boss said in his post-match news conference.
“In the first part we have had control of the ball and the situation.
“Before going 2-1 down we have had chances and have stopped the ball. The team has not stopped believing.
“The team has not stopped believing until the end and I think we deserved more than them.
“We think of Macedonia. I’m happy about the game. We knew it was going to be an intense match. Colombia is a great team. It was a good test.
“I think we have been superior but they have been very effective. It’s definitely a big block.”
