President Buhari’s Impeachment: Reps Probe Jibrin, Kazaure
In the aftermath of the National Assembly resolution to President Muhamadu Buhari, the House of Representatives has resolved to probe Reps Abdulmumin Jibrin and Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure over their comments that the House was planning to impeach the president.
While Jibrin said that the joint closed-door session of both the Senate and the House held on Tuesday was a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) affair, Kazaure raised the ante by accusing some members of the House of collecting signatures to impeach Buhari.
Kazaure mentioned the names of Reps Ossai Nicholas Ossai (PDP, Delta) and Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers) as some of those that signed the impeachment document following the faceoff between the executive and legislature.
During Wednesday’s sitting of the House, two lawmakers raised the issue, saying it affected their privileges.
Reps Sunday Karimi and Ossai brought the two issues on the floor of the House under matters of privileges, before it was referred to the committee on ethics and privileges to investigate and get back to the House.
Meanwhile, the presidency has yet to respond to the ultimatum given by the lawmakers late Tuesday calling for among other things, and end to the persecution of opposition and the immediate removal of the Inspector-general of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
