NASS Siege: Saraki Challenges Buhari To Set Up Independent Panel Of Inquiry
Senate President, Bukola Saraki has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute an independent panel to take a cursory look into the activities of the Department of State Security (DSS) last week Tuesday.
THEWILL recalls that the DSS last Tuesday invaded the National Assembly and blocked the entrance, refusing to allow staff of the National Assembly and lawmakers entry into the premises.
The blockade drew criticisms nationwide and internationally.
While many believe the move was sanctioned by the Presidency, the actions that followed might have suggested it was a self-motivated move by sacked DSS DG, Lawal Daura.
Irked by the action, Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo ordered Daura’s immediate dismissal and criticised the blockade.
On his micro-blogging site, Twitter handle, Saraki said the Presidency should constitute an investigative panel that will be independent and not avowed to show loyalty to any part of government.
“The very serious questions about last Tuesday’s siege on the National Assembly can only be answered through a thorough and neutral investigation. I call on Mr. President to immediately institute an independent judicial panel of inquiry to look into that assault on our democracy,” he tweeted.
