INEC Will Rig 2019 Election – PDP
As the polity continues to heat up ahead of next year’s crucial elections, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, on Thursday told a European Union (EU) delegation in Abuja that the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are working to truncate Nigeria’s democracy.
Secondus made the damning claim at the PDP secretariat during a visit by the EU team led by Ketil Karlsen.
According to the PDP boss, indicators on ground showed that the APC was not prepared to conduct free and fair elections in 2019, Daily Trust writes.
“What we see is martial system of framing up opposition leaders and trying to intimidate them. They are not ready to observe the rule of law and there is no democracy without rule of law,” Secundus said.
“We conducted elections in 2015, the party and the presidential candidate did not go to court, and we had smooth transition because we believe in the rule of law.
“Nigeria as the largest black nation in the globe cannot afford crisis because of the huge effect it would have in the continent and the entire global democratic community if democracy is truncated.”
But President Muhammadu Buhari – who this week threw his hat in the 2019 race – has repeatedly maintained his administration’s resolve to conduct free and fair elections at all levels.
