Arsene Wenger Provides Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck Injury Updates
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has provided some injury news ahead of his side’s game with Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening, with Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck the main talking points.
The Gunners fielded a slightly weakened team against Chelsea at the weekend, with Ozil out of the squad altogether while Alexis Sanchez started on the bench.
Welbeck later suffered a groin injury that now looks set to rule him out for a few weeks, with Wenger saying he didn’t expect him back until after the next international break.
The Frenchman also provided updates on Ozil and Francis Coquelin, with the latter also looking set to be out for a lengthy period, though the former is recovering well from a knee problem.
‘Danny has a scan today, we don’t know how bad his groin injury is but he will certainly be out until the international break,’ Wenger said. ‘Coquelin as well. (Mathieu) Debuchy is coming back slowly.
‘Mesut is training again, but for tomorrow no (he will not feature). He has a little inflammation of his knee.’
Wenger added that he expected his team to be similar to the one that played against FC Cologne in the Europa League last week, with Jack Wilshere among the squad players who could get a chance to impress.
‘Yes, he (Calum Chambers) will be involved against Doncaster. Jack Wilshere is involved too,’ he said.
‘It will be a similar team to the one that played against Cologne.’
