Anthony Martial To Sign New Long Term Deal At Man United
Manchester United winger, Anthony Martial, is in line to sign a new five-year contract at the club, according to reports.
Daily Mail reports that the Frenchman is said to be interested in the new contract worth £130,000-a-week, believing that Jose Mourinho’s days at Old Trafford are numbered.
Sportsmail also revealed that a number of players and staff at United believe Mourinho could be sacked soon, following the poor start to the new season.
The latest development presents a new turn for the 22-year-old player, whose agent, Philippe Lamboley, had confirmed in June that Martial had rejected the offer.
Martial still has 12 months left on his current £90,000-a-week contract and knows that United intend to trigger a 12-month extension if he does not sign a new one.
Tying him to a new deal would be delight for the club’s chief executive, Ed Woodward, who is reportedly at odds with Mourinho over United’s transfer policy this summer.
United broke the world transfer record for a teenager three years ago to sign Martial from Monaco in a £36million deal. The deal eventually rose to about £58million.
It is reported that one of the reasons the club is reluctant to let the player go is, he is young and they believe he has not fulfilled his potential.
Mourinho, on the other hand, wanted to sell him, to generate funds to sign a more experienced winger, like Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic and Chelsea’s Willian.
After a promising first season at United, the winger has drifted out of the picture in two years under the Portuguese coach.
Martial was left out of the squad completely during United’s 0-3 Monday night home loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports in France this week claimed that Martial hasn’t been told why he was not in the squad. The report also said he is being used in a “power game” between Mourinho and Woodward.
He is still unhappy for being fined £180,000, for going AWOL from the club’s training camp in Los Angeles last month, to attend the birth of his son in Paris.
